The fictional Enthusiastic Woman magazine was originally conceived for a humor-driven social media campaign promoting the “I Birth Success” hashtag. The initial magazine idea grew into the concept of a fictional television channel (the Enthusiastic Woman Network) that was similar to QVC, if it was run by circus clowns and Gwyneth Paltrow.
From that initial concept sprang the idea for a real-world podcast that analyzes pop culture through a GenX lens. Featuring Sam and two collaborators, the Enthusiastic Woman podcast ran for two seasons. A collection of the episodes can be found on our Buzzsprout platform and on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
The characters of the Enthusiastic Woman Network
Verbena Wackerfield (CEO and owner)
International socialite and modern lifestyle advocate Verbena Wackerfield offers cutting-edge wellness advice, vetted travel recommendations, and a curated shop of clean beauty products and high-end prices.
Heiress to the Wackerfield Publishing Empire, Verbena shot to semi-stardom with her 2011 reality series “Waking up Wackerfield,” which aired on Wealth TV. In each episode, she showed viewers how to have a first-class travel experience after getting dropped into various ‘off the map’ locations with only one credit card and one maid.
Verbena is the mother of two still-evolving adults – a daughter, Shadowcat, and a son, Barnabus. Verbena is also the creator of a cutting-edge educational pedagogy known as “Feral Homeschooling,” which calls for children to spend each school day unattended in the forest rather than in a classroom, because “What can a teacher teach that a fox doesn’t already know?” Shadowcat and Barnabus are participating in Feral Homeschooling’s pilot project and spend eight hours each day in a forest. Sadly, Barnabus suffers from a chronic case of what Verbena says is “adolescent-onset rabies,” which she believes is genetic and unrelated to the amount of time Barnabus spends with raccoons during Feral Homeschooling.

The bottom line: Mary knows what’s wrong with you. She is here to tell you that you need to stop it, because frankly, it’s one of the things that is wrong with you.
